Pimp My Dyke!

It's getting COLD wearing nothing but warpaint in winter!

Anyway, to get your creative juices (wa-hey!) flowing we have scammed an idea from this dyke. Here it is - click the image to get hold of the fullsize image; then save it and pimp it. Print it out, do it digitally, do anything you want. Then email it to us for the first issue of the zine. Keep it grayscale for the zine, but go rainbow mad for fun. If you post any of the results on your b log or whatever, please hit us with the link so we can feature you. Get your cats to pimp a dyke too.

A shout out also to the MambaGirl woman for leaping on board - glad to have you, so to speak!

What is a dyke? What makes you a dyke? What are dykes all about anyway? Be personal, be political, be creative and email us the results. Even if it's just one sentence, we want it. Whatever you send us, please also remember to tell us what name to use when we publish.

Well, we've been stalking and stumbling and slithering through cyberspace to canvas every dyke we can find to ask for submissions for the zine. We've had quite a few occasions of people responding but who are you? It's a secret. We're hiding underground in a very underground sort of burnt-out factory style loft space - the problems finding an underground loft were complex indeed, but we'll stop at nothing to coerce and cajole messages out of you, spend a lot of time designing the thing to make it look uncontrived and then hope like hell it'll be interesting.

So far we have received a cartoon (single cell), a poem, a proposal for a column and a commitment to do a cartoon. What else do we need? Anything and everything with a dykey message. Skill is far less important than your message, so even if all you have is an idea, share it. And some deep dark dyke drawings would be wonderful.

We're contemplating June 21 as the launch date; issue 1 to be in .pdf format and downloadable here. That means we need your submissions yesterday please. We're wearing warpaint and very little else while we wait.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get involved with a new South African zine - by dykes and for anyone who's interested. A zine is a low/no cost thing; all it takes is time, energy, creativity and passion.

Needed:
Poetry, prose, artwork, illustration, cartoons, opinions - writing to be under 500 words please.
People to push this idea i.e. right now in its embryonic stage as well as getting the zine to the masses once it's born. Email this to all the dykes you know, put it on Myspace/Facebook etc, blog it, skywrite it - anything you can think of.
A title! Suggestions as well as design ideas please.

Nobody is going to benefit from this financially and until I can find some print sponsorship, it'll be purely digital. Think of all the times you wished there was a better dyke magazine in South Africa, think of the content you'd like to see, and the create or suggest it.

ETA depends on how fast ideas and artwork come in.
